About SalariesByCity
SalariesByCity provides salary data by US city and occupation, anchored to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) survey — the most comprehensive public source of US wage data.
We built this tool to help job seekers, hiring managers, and curious professionals understand real market rates — without paywalls or required signups.
How Our Figures Are Sourced
Our wage figures fall into two clearly labeled classes, and we are deliberate about not overstating either:
- BLS OEWS-aligned — for core occupations (e.g. software developers, registered nurses, financial analysts, physicians, lawyers, electricians, accountants), the metro figures are curated to track the published BLS OEWS metropolitan wage tables for that SOC code. These are approximate and calibrated to the most recent OEWS release, not live BLS API pulls.
- Modeled estimates — for broader occupations, the metro figures are modeled: scaled from BLS OEWS wage ratios rather than read directly from a BLS metro table for that specific occupation. Each occupation/metro page labels which method produced its figures, so you always know whether you are looking at a BLS-aligned number or a modeled estimate.
No figure on this site is a verbatim, unmodified BLS download. All figures are approximate and intended for orientation, not as a guarantee of any individual's pay. See our data disclaimer for the full accuracy limits.
Affiliate Disclosure
Some links on SalariesByCity are affiliate links to career platforms (Coursera). These are editorially selected as relevant to people researching salaries and career moves. We may earn a commission if you sign up, at no extra cost to you. This does not affect our salary data or how we present it — all figures are anchored to BLS OEWS government wage data and labeled by sourcing method.
